One Decision That Changed Everything

Fourteen years ago, I boarded a plane to Bali. Not for a vacation. But to take the hardest decision of my life.

I had two small daughters. A marriage that felt broken. And a heart that felt broken and didn’t know what was right anymore.

I was told: “Never make a decision in anger.” So I didn’t. I made it in truth and in silence.

In the quiet moments in Bali, I wasn’t running away from my life, I was searching for the part of me I had lost inside it.

Love was still there. So was pain and fear. But I knew that staying would mean abandoning myself and what I stand for. And that’s a path I didn’t want to model for my daughters.

I returned home and on September 11, 2011, I sat down with my husband with my heart. In that moment I sat in front of my husband and shared the decision that had taken all my courage: that I could no longer continue in our marriage.

We cried as we knew that was the end of our chapter as husband and wife as love alone was no longer enough.

What That Day Taught Me:

✅ Healing isn’t a moment. It’s a journey that takes time and deep contemplation.

✅ The hardest decisions are the most liberating. They come from deep self-respect and the quiet knowing that we can no longer betray ourselves.

✅ Choosing yourself doesn’t destroy a family. It rebuilds one on truth, clarity, and grounded love.

✅ We don’t find peace by avoiding pain, but by walking through it, with grace.

To Those Standing at the Edge:

If you are in a moment of questioning… If you’re scared to hurt others by honoring your truth…

Please remember: Your truth will never hurt more than your silence.

This is not a story about divorce. It is a story about returning to yourself. Coming home.

Give yourself time. Breathe through the grief. And trust that something stronger will rise.

Today, in 2025, I look back not with regret — but with deep humility.

Because I know: We can get through anything. And the way out is always the way in.

With love,

Nazanin
